Are you putting your talents in the spotlight or are you staying in the shadow of your own warehouse?

"I work hard, but I'm not selling anything."

You work tirelessly. You're constantly busy with your offerings, your sales funnel, creating content, and working on your website. It's all a lot of work.

Yet, you're not making any sales. Or very few. How can that be, you wonder? I'm working so hard, aren't I?!

Yes, you are. Maybe even too hard. In the wrong way... You're busy, but you're primarily focused on "warehouse work."

Take a look at how much time you spend refining your website, optimizing your systems, fine-tuning your online program, and creating content. Quite a lot, right?

And where are you online? You're hesitant to showcase your skills and talents – your real "gold." Are you afraid of being too salesy? Or do you doubt what you're selling? Or whom you're selling to?

"Yes, but my offering isn't ready yet." "I still need to re-record those videos because they're outdated..." "When my sales funnel is complete, I can start selling."

The problem with 'warehouse work'

Meanwhile, your warehouse is perfectly organized. Everything is neatly arranged, but you haven't sold a single product or service.

Why not? Because you're not stepping out of your warehouse. You're doing 'warehouse work.' To sell, you need to be at the front of your store. If there's nobody in the store, nobody will come in.

You have a beautiful store, but nobody knows it exists, where it's located, or what awesome things are available.

From warehouse worker to succesful entrepreneur

Are you also a warehouse worker in your own business? It's time to step up to the counter, open your store, fill your display window, and hang the "Open" sign.

The impact of a well-designed display window

By keeping the shutters of your store's display window closed and not showing people what you have to offer, you're depriving them of the opportunity to buy from you.

And why did you become an entrepreneur? To sell services or products, right?

How visibility helps grow your business

By standing at the front of your store, putting your products in the display window, and having a chat with your potential customers, you ensure that people get to know you, establish a connection with you, and want to buy your merchandise (your 'gold').

Become a customer magnet

Through your visibility and openness, customers are drawn to your store like a magnet. They come by regularly to see if you have something new on offer, or if they're true fans, they line up as soon as you open your doors to be the first to take advantage of your offerings.

Setting up an effective display window

Show in your display window what you want to draw attention to. For example, your most popular product (one that contributes significantly to your revenue). Present the rest of your offerings in an organized manner in your store. Think about consistent presentation.

Step out of the warehouse and into the light

Come out of your warehouse and stand at the front of your store! Welcome your customers, have a chat, and show them what you have in store. Let customers browse around; sometimes they take something home, sometimes they think it over for a night. It's all fine as long as you're proud of what you have in your display window. In love with your own product or service. Just like a baker can be very proud of their fig walnut sourdough bread, and a florist puts together a beautiful bouquet for you with love.

I found my way out of the warehouse. How about you?

I worked in a store during my teenage and student years for many years and know all about both working in the warehouse and setting up a beautiful display window. I was a star at the cash register (if I say so myself). No one could check out and wrap gifts as efficiently and quickly as I could. Which types of stores did I work in? Among others, an office supply store (notebooks, journals, pens, magazines, and of course, books) and Scheltema and De Slegte in Amsterdam.

I've since found my way out of the warehouse, and also out of the bookstore. Because, although I loved interacting with customers in the store, I prefer to help create those stories and books. And then sell them.
